Is Doctrine Important?

This is a topic that sadly most people don't really think or even care about. And when it is talked about people get heated, which is understandable. But today's purpose is simply to remind Christians that Doctrine is very important.

Let's first define Doctrine. Matt Slick, president and founder of CARM explains it like this:

"Doctrine is A set of accepted beliefs held by a group. In religion, it is the set of true beliefs that define the parameters of that belief system. Hence, there is true doctrine and false doctrine relative to each belief set. In Christianity, for example, a true biblical doctrine is that there is only one God in all existence (Isaiah 43:10; 44:6,8). A false doctrine is that there is more than one God in all existence."

You see, the reason I'm writing on this is because I've talked to Christians that don't acknowlege it's importance, and that worries me. Christians have told me that I care about Doctrine too much or that we "don't" need doctrine, cause all we need to do is love Jesus. Sounds familiar? Well let's look closely at the statement "I just need to love Jesus" for a moment. When they say they only need to love Jesus the first problem with that is what Jesus are you talking about? Is it the Mormon Jesus who is Satan's brother? Or is it the Jehovah Witnesses Jesus, the one that was Michael the Arch Angel? Or is it the Biblical Jesus the Son of God, Second Person of the Holy Trinity that came into this dark world by adding to Himself human nature, lived a perfect and holy life, died and took the wrath of God for His Bride and rose on the third day physically and historically and now Rules and Reigns with all glory and power? There is a huge difference between these Jesus'. One needs to adhere to a correct doctrine of Jesus.

I can go on and on but for times sake I won't. But I do hope and pray that you see why Doctrine is important. Too many Christians just accept anything thrown at them instead of checking if it's in line with Scripture. We need to make sure that we believe what the Bible says and not believe what I would like it to say. I'm sure some people just think that just being loving will save people but love cannot come alone, truth is what sets people free. Show people the love of Christ and speak the powerful truth so that they may come to know the One True God.

Verse of the blog:

"Beloved, although I was very eager to write to you about our common salvation, I found it necessary to write appealing to you to contend for the faith that was once for all delivered to the saints. For certain people have crept in unnoticed who long ago were designated for this condemnation, ungodly people, who pervert the grace of our God into sensuality and deny our only Master and Lord, Jesus Christ." Jude 3-4
